Meal Time Blessings

          Ada, OK –  Many families are starved for time together, but the best opportunity to remedy that comes around every day — family mealtime.

         Busy schedules make it difficult to have family dinners around the table, but sharing a family meal four to seven times a week lowers the risk of eating disorders, obesity, bullying, substance abuse, and increases academic success, chances of graduating from high school and attending college.

Chickasaw Elder participates in Cross-State Bicycle Tour

          Ada, OK – Chickasaw elder, John Burkhart, 66, traveled from Kemp, Texas to participate in the annual weeklong bicycle tour, OK FreeWheel. OK FreeWheel’s route celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail. The bicycle tour began, Sunday, June 11 in Wichita Falls, Texas and ended, Saturday, June 17 in South Haven, Kansas.

Retirement Home Night Nurses

         Some people don’t give up wild nightlives laced with drugs, memory loss and old friends.  

         Mick Forquer, stays out all night at the same joint every Friday, Primrose Retirement Community. Forquer is a tool and dye maker turned night nurse. 

Mission of Hope Case Manager

       A recovering alcoholic and cancer patient is using her experience to help others.

       Each week, Audra Farrow, the case manager at the Mission of Hope, asks up to 15 homeless clients to define their goals, and she is accustomed blank stares or excuses in response. With either reaction, she patiently asks her clients about their lives until she finds an objective she can encourage them toward.
